Clinical Will Executor & Practice Continuity Service

A clinical practice should have a plan for what happens if the practitioner becomes seriously ill or dies and is unable to contact clients directly.

The 2026 BACP Ethical Framework (para 4.5E) requires practitioners to have appointed someone who can communicate with clients in these circumstances and support them in making alternative arrangements where this is desired. For many practitioners, the difficult part is not understanding the principle — it is putting a practical, workable arrangement in place.

The Sentia Clinical Will Executor & Practice Continuity Service provides a structured way to do this.

What the service provides

• A named Clinical Will Executor, subject to acceptance and annual renewal.

• A structured readiness process so that essential information can be accessed quickly if the service is activated.

• A defined activation protocol focused on current clients, imminent appointments, confidentiality and orderly handover.

• An annual review to check that contact, access and continuity information remains current.
   

If the service is activated

Where death or serious illness prevents you from communicating with clients, the Clinical Will Executor will follow the agreed instructions. The standard activation package is designed to:
 

• Confirm that the activation threshold has been met;

• Liaise with your nominated access person or representative;

• Obtain access to the minimum information required;

• Identify current clients and imminent appointments;

• Make an agreed initial contact with current clients;

• Support clients in considering alternative arrangements where requested;

• Help secure confidential practice information and identify the person responsible for its ongoing custody;

• Record actions taken and provide an orderly handover.
   

The service is deliberately limited in scope. It does not include probate, estate administration, legal advice, debt collection, indefinite practice management or an obligation to provide ongoing therapy to clients.
 

Fees

• One-off set-up consultation: £75

• Annual retainer: £75 per year.

• Activation fee: £750 when the Clinical Will Executor service is validly activated. This fixed activation package includes mobilisation and up to ten hours of professional time within the defined scope of the service.

• Additional work beyond the included ten hours may be available at £75 per hour, where reasonably necessary within the agreed scope and authorised under the service terms.
   

Sentia Well-being Ltd is not currently registered for VAT. If VAT registration becomes applicable, VAT will be added to fees at the prevailing rate from the effective date of registration.
 

Payment is by Direct Debit through Sentia’s nominated payment provider (currently GoCardless). A payment mandate is established during onboarding so that fees properly due under the service can be collected even if the practitioner is unavailable at the point of activation, subject to the applicable Direct Debit scheme requirements.
 

Fees are reviewed annually in January. A review does not necessarily result in an increase; any change will be communicated in advance.
 

Clinical Will planning

You do not have to appoint Sentia as your Clinical Will Executor to use the planning process. A self-guided Clinical Will planning resource can help you create clear instructions for a trusted colleague, supervisor or other suitable person.
